The Glorious Mysteries

of the Rosary

" My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When shall I come and behold the face of God?"

(Ps 42:2)

~The Resurrection of Jesus~

"Where, oh death, is thy sting?"

Optional scripture reading:

"This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures for ever!" (Ps117:24-1

"After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.  And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it.  His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men.  Then the angel said to the women in reply,

"Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified.  He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.' Behold, I have told you."

Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples.  And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them,

"Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me." (Mt28:1-10)

~The Ascension of Jesus~

Divinity manifested forever...

Optional scripture reading:

"God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.  Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!  For the Lord, the Most High, is terrible, a great king over all the earth.  He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.  He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.  Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!" (Ps47:5,1-4,6)

"Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.  And he said to them,

'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.'  (Mk16:15-18)

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.  And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen." (Mk16:14-20)

~The Coming of the Holy Spirit~

The Spirit of Redemption does the work of Jesus....

Optional scripture reading:

"Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth." (Ps104:30)

"But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'  But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.  Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.  And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now." (Jn16:5-12)

"When day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.  And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.  And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?  And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?  Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,  Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God." (Acts2:1-11)

~The Assumption of Mary into Heaven~

True hope for our own ascent to Heaven...

Optional scripture reading:

"All glorious is the king's daughter as she enters, her raiment threaded with gold." (Ps45:14)

"All the people were greatly astonished. They bowed down and worshiped God, saying with one accord, "Blessed are you, our God, who today have brought to nought the enemies of your people."
Then Uzziah said to her: "Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God, above all the women on earth; and blessed be the Lord God, the creator of heaven and earth, who guided your blow at the head of the chief of our enemies.  Your deed of hope will never be forgotten by those who tell of the might of God.  May God make this redound to your everlasting honor, rewarding you with blessings, because you risked your life when your people were being oppressed, and you averted our disaster, walking uprightly before our God." And all the people answered, "Amen! Amen!"
(Judith13:17-10 NAB)

"The august Mother of God was mysteriously united by divine decree and the requirement from all eternity with Jesus Christ in one and the same decree of  predestination, immaculate in her conception, a virgin, inviolate in her divine motherhood, the wholehearted companion of the divine Redeemer who won complete victory over sin and its consequences. Thus, she gained at last the supreme crown of her privileges; to be preserved immune from the corruption of the tomb, and, like her Son, when death had been conquered, to be carried up body and soul to the exalted glory of heaven, there to sit in splendor at the right hand of her Son, the immortal King of the ages."           (Pope Pius XII, Munificentissimus Deus)

"At your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir." (Ps45:9)

~The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth~

 Humility exalted forever...

Optional scripture reading:

"And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament  And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars." (Rev11:19,12:1 KJV)

"Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God, above all the women on earth; and blessed be the Lord God, the creator of heaven and earth, who guided your blow at the head of the chief of our enemies. You are the glory of Jerusalem, you are the joy of Israel; you are the honor of our people." (Judith13:18,15:9 NAB)

"The Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of  her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory and exulted by the Lord as Queen over all things so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of Lords and conqueror of sin and death. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son's resurrection, and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians." (CCC:966)
