"See My love first, then see My suffering. If you see My suffering first and not My love, then you have missed My reason for coming. If you look at My suffering or your own suffering without seeing My love first, then how will you be able to understand anything about My passion or be able to endure your own suffering."

(Jesus to Nancy Fowler, December 29, 1990)

Historical note: The first, second, and third falls of Jesus are not revealed in the Gospels.  These stations, along with the fourth station, the meeting of Jesus with His Mother, the fifth station, Veronica wiping the face of Jesus, and the tenth station, the stripping of Jesus' tunic from His body are commemorated along the Via Dolorosa or The Way of the Cross in Jerusalem.  Christians of all confessions have preserved these actual Stations of the Cross for 2000 years.

The infamous hill of Golgotha is man-made; about 15 feet high and located just outside the walls of Jerusalem.  There was space enough at the top for three or four crucifixions.  There were steps carved into the side of the hill for the executioners and the condemned to climb to the top.  Golgotha, "the place of the skull" served the Romans as a place of execution that kept the crowds of on-lookers at the base of the hill.  Jewish historians have incorporated a representation of Golgotha into a model of the ancient city of Jerusalem, which is located in the Holy Land Hotel in Jerusalem.  Both Golgotha and the Tomb of Jesus are within the walls of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.

The wood carvings of the Stations of the Cross depicted on this page are about two-thirds life-sized.  In 1936, they were originally located in the Chapel of the Holy Trinity in St. Joseph's Infirmary, Atlanta, Georgia .  At the completion of the new St. Joseph's Hospital, these stations were moved to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Alpharetta, Georgia.  They are presently gracing the walls of the circular nave of the church.

As Nancy was kneeling at the foot of the crucifix in church, she prayed:

"Teach me, Oh Lord, how to walk this passion. Let me hear from You what You were experiencing at each   station." (September 25, 1989)

THE FIRST STATION

~Jesus is condemned to death~

Consider that Jesus, after having been scourged and

crowned with thorns, was unjustly condemned

by Pilate to die on the cross.

"They cried out, 'Away with him!  Away with him! Crucify him!'  Pilate said to them, 'Shall I crucify your King?'

The chief priests answered, 'We have no king but Caesar."  Then he handed him over to them to be crucified."

(Jn19:15-17)

V:  We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

R:  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"Think of the times that you were falsely accused, that outright lies were said about you. Think about what the people are saying and see them all together surrounding you. You know the truth but they do not. Now you speak out to relieve some of the internal suffering. I did not. I kept silent."

Prayer:  I love Thee O my Jesus, with my whole heart.  I love Thee more than myself.  I repent of having offended Thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always, then do with me as Thy wilt.

~ Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be ~

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen."

Those who are disposed add:  "For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever and ever.  Amen."

"Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed art Thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen."

"Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever."

V. Lord Jesus crucified.    R. Have mercy on  us!

Stabat Mater

"At the cross her station keeping,

Stood the mournful mother weeping,

Close to Jesus to the last."

THE SECOND STATION

~Jesus accepts His cross~

Consider that Jesus, in making this journey with the cross

on His shoulders, thought of us and offered for us to His

Father the death that He was about to undergo.

"So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place

called the place of a skull which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha."

(Jn19:17)

V:  We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

R:  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"Now add the first station to this station and My accepting the cross of suffering from them. I gently and lovingly took the cross from their hands. They gave it to Me with hatred and disbelief in who I am. I was hurt deeply in every way."

V. Lord Jesus crucified!   R. Have mercy on us!

Stabat Mater

"Through her heart, His sorrow sharing,

All His bitter anguish bearing,

Now at length the sword has passed."

 THE THIRD STATION

~Jesus falls the first time~

Consider this first fall of Jesus under His cross. His flesh was torn by the

scourges, His head crowned with thorns, and He had lost a great quantity

of blood. He was so weakened that He could scarcely walk, and yet He

had to carry this great load upon His shoulders. The soldiers struck

Him rudely, and thus He fell several times in His journey.

"Though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross."

(Phil2:6-8)

 V.  We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

R:  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"I fell, Nancy, I fell.  The weight of My suffering was too great.  I fell, and I got up again.  I did not give up.  I received strength from My Father as you will."

Prayer:  I love Thee O my Jesus, with my whole heart.  I love Thee more than myself.  I repent of having offended Thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always, then do with me as Thy wilt.

~ Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be ~

V. Lord Jesus crucified!    R. Have mercy on us!

Stabat Mater

"Oh, how sad and sore distressed

Was that Mother highly blessed

Of the sole-begotten One!"

THE FOURTH STATION
~Jesus meets His afflicted mother~

Consider the meeting of the Son and the Mother, which took place

on this journey. Jesus and Mary looked at each other, and their

looks became as so many arrows to wound those hearts

which loved each other so tenderly.

" He might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross"

(Eph2:16)

 V.  We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

R.  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"Think of your hurting someone who you love very much and causing them great pain. My Mother walked the passion with Me perfectly in her heart. I'm calling you to walk the passion with us."

"Christ above in torment hangs,

She beneath beholds the pangs

Of her dying, glorious Son."

THE FIFTH STATION

~Simon of Cyrene helps carry the cross~

Consider that the Romans, seeing that at each step Jesus, from weakness,

was on the point of expiring, and fearing that He would die on

the way, when they wished Him to die the ignominious

death of the cross, constrained Simon the Cyrenian to

carry the cross behind Our Lord.

"And they compelled a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the

country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross."

(Mk15:21)

V.  We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R.  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"Listen to My words.  At this station, learn humility.  Learn to accept help from everyone ... even when the person who is offering the help does not do so willingly.  By your love for him, he will change. You effect change by being humble."

"Is there one who would not weep

Whelmed in miseries so deep

Christ's dear Mother to behold?"

THE SIXTH STATION

~Veronica wipes the face of Jesus~

Consider that the holy woman named Veronica, seeing Jesus so afflicted and

His face bathed in sweat and blood, presented Him with a towel, with

which she wiped His adorable face.  On it He left the

impression of His holy countenance.

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near in the blood of Christ."

(Eph2:13)

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R.  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"At this station I have spoken to you before.  I spoke to you when I permitted you to see My suffering face, My mournful face, My smiling face, My teasing face.  In the face man reveals his greatest emotions.  Yes, in the stone face you see what his heart is like.  The face is a reflection of the heart.  I reveal My face to those whose hearts are pure."

V. Lord Jesus crucified.    R. Have mercy on us!

Stabat Mater

"Can the human heart refrain

From partaking in her pain,

   In that Mother's pain untold?"

THE SEVENTH STATION

~Jesus falls the second time~

Consider the second fall of Jesus under the cross----

a fall which renews the pains of all the wounds

of the head and members of our afflicted Lord.

"Jesus the pioneer and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross,

despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

(Heb.12:2)

 V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R.  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"Learn from Me dearest daughter.  You will fall many times, and you must get up many times. Precious one, you will grow weak.  From all sides you will suffer.  Look at My eyes; see the love, compassion, the forgiveness, the hope.  Never give up.  You will be tested many times. Consider it an honor.  My precious daughter, always love and forgive.  I am where your eyes are.  When you are down looking at the ground because of the weight of the cross, I am there looking into your eyes ... so I am down with you to help you get up.  How many times will each precious soul bring Me back to the passion?  I have shown you there is not much tissue left."

"Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled,

She beheld her tender child,

All with bloody scourges rent."

THE EIGHTH STATION

~Jesus speaks to the women of Jerusalem~

Consider that those women wept with compassion at

seeing Jesus in so pitiable a state streaming with

blood, as He walked along. But Jesus said to them,

"Weep not for me, but for your children."

"And (He) might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross,

thereby bringing the hostility to an end."

(Eph2:16)

 V.  We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R.  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"Welcome. Let Me teach you about selfless love.  Reach out in love to one another.  Be compassionate.  Share their burdens as I did.  There is a time for tears, a time to reach out.  Care for one another.  Precious daughter, let Me put My hand on your head.  Weep not for Me.  Weep for all of mankind.  There is a time for everything.  Time is My precious gift.  When you refuse to give time, you refuse to give My gift.  Gifts are meant to be shared.  Be not selfish but generous."

"For the sins of His own nation

Saw Him hang in desolation

Till His Spirit forth He sent."

 THE NINTH STATION
~Jesus falls the third time~

Consider the third fall of Jesus Christ. His

weakness was extreme, and the cruelty of His

executioners excessive, who tried to hasten His

steps when He had scarcely strength to move.

"For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."

(Col.1:19-20)

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R. Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy:

"Sit a while with Me at this station. Share My suffering with Me. Share My brokenness. Share My sorrow. When the burdens seem greatest, know that you are closest to Me, your goal. All paths converge into one. I am One with the Father. There is One God. As the storm passes, your way will be clear again. Other storms will come and so will they leave. Don't give up in the midst of the storm. Remember all paths converge into one. Remember I will make the way clear for you."

"O thou Mother, fount of love,

Touch my spirit from above.

Make my heart with thine accord."

THE TENTH STATION

~Jesus is stripped of his clothing~

Consider the violence with which the executioners

stripped Jesus. His inner garments adhered to His

torn flesh, and they dragged them off so roughly

hat the skin came with them. Compassionate

 your Saviour thus cruelly treated.

"For he is our peace, who has made us both one, and

has broken down the dividing wall of hostility."

(Eph2:14)

 V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R.  Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy,

"Let them take what they need. Give it to them. Let it be taken ... be stripped of it. Do not cling to passing things. Cling to Me alone ... that can never be taken from you. When everything is gone from you, you will experience Me the greatest. If you have many coverings, will you not miss My touch? When you touch, you know. Touch Me. I invite all of My children to reach out and touch Me and touch one another."

"Make me feel as thou hast felt;

Make my soul to glow and melt

With the love of Christ, my Lord."

 THE ELEVENTH STATION

~Jesus is nailed to the cross~

Consider that Jesus, after being thrown on the cross,

extended His hands and offered to His eternal

Father the sacrifice of His life for our salvation.

These barbarians fastened Him with nails, and

then, raising the cross, left Him to die with anguish.

"Having forgiven us all our trespasses, having canceled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross."

(Col.2:13-14)

 V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R. Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy,

"Surrender completely. Bear the pain; bear the rejection. Bear everything for your reward is waiting you. When others strike, do not strike back. Show them the error of their ways by your example. Your actions will speak louder. Remember what you do to one another you do to Me. No one strikes another without first striking Me."

"Holy Mother, pierce me through!

In my heart each would renew

Of my Savior crucified."

THE TWELFTH STATION

~Jesus dies upon the cross~

Consider how thy Jesus, after three hours of agony

on the cross, consumed at length with anguish,

abandons Himself to the weight of His

body, bows His head, and dies.

"But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,

through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."

(Gal6:14)

 V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R. Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said  to Nancy,

"My precious daughter you must die before you can be reborn. Die to yourself completely. Yes, you must die to everything. You leave everything behind when you die and then come to Me. I will give you all that you will need forever. Seek Me alone. Walk with Me alone. Do not be afraid. When you die, you live."

"Let me share with thee His pain,

Who for all our sins was slain.

Who for me in torments died."

THE THIRTEENTH STATION

~Jesus is taken down from the cross~

Consider that Our Lord having expired, two of  His

disciples, Joseph and Nicodemus, took him down

from the cross and place Him in the arms of His

afflicted mother, who received Him with unutterable

tenderness and pressed Him to her bosom.

"That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ."

(Col.2:2)

 V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R. Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy,

"Never loose hope no matter how bad it may seem. Love, Love, Love and I will be alive to you."

"Let me mingle tears with thee,

Mourning Him Who mourned for me,

All the days that I may live."

THE FOURTEENTH STATION

~Jesus is placed in the tomb~

Consider that the disciples carried the body of

Jesus to bury it, accompanied by His holy mother,

who arranged it in the sepulchre with her own

hands. They then closed the tomb, and all withdrew.

"Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."

(Col.2:12)

 V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,

R. Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus said to Nancy,

"Please don't lock Me away in a tomb and think I have died, never to return. If you are experiencing a dark night of the soul, bear it. Think of yourself as being locked in the tomb with Me. Look at how close you are to Me. As I rose out of the darkness of the tomb so shall you. Your soul needs time to be quiet and alone with Me even though you can't feel Me alive. I am closest to you in these moments. Stay with Me. Don't give up. Don't despair. Persist and endure. Light will come into your soul. I will not abandon you to darkness forever. Your soul is experiencing Me even though your senses are not. Remember, your soul is with Me in these times of darkness. You are the one who can't see. Be asleep for a while. Stay with Me, and I will awaken you."

Our Sorrowful and Immaculate Loving Mother, Mary

 Stabat Mater

"By the cross with thee to stay,

There with thee to weep and pray,

Is all I ask of thee to give."
